What do you always have in the booth?

I lot of little knickknacks from books I have narrated and lavender essential oil

How did you come to performing audiobooks?

I have wanted to be a career actor since I can remember. After 5 years in classical theatre training programs I fell for a boy at a Shakespeare Festival and moved in NYC in 2002. While temping, between theatre gigs in NYC, in 2005 I found out Recorded Books needed “engineers” — which for this actor meant being a director, having a good ear, and learning juuust enough tech. After a few years directing the absolute best in the biz/ proofing/ editing/ mastering/ cutting tracks (and booking more theatre gigs than I had before because I was so happy), I put together a demo, Claudia Howard saw me in a play Off-Broadway, and she gave me my first book in 2008. And the rest, as they say…

Anything else you’d like a listener to know?

I am learning, even still, how important it is to fill my cup beyond my work as an artist. Recently I went back to school and am working toward a Trades Certification in Horticulture. After sixteen years as a full-time actor (30yrs of full-time pursuit), I now work seasonally at UBC Botanical Garden — slowing my narration a biiiit in the summer while I garden, then as the weather turns toward colder days and longer nights, I go back to living stories full time.

I believe in fully embodying every moment of the script — being with every evolution and discovery, every emotion, in every moment. My hope is the listener will be able to either fully jump into the story AS me, or feel as though they are holding my hand as we go through it together. I am a book Auntie. I hold the story for a while with deep care and then I give it back. It is an immense privilege and an honor.
