What was the first audiobook you performed?

Do any audiobook narrators own up to and link their FIRST book? Luckily for me, my first book, which was a short book about meditation that I contracted on ACX was over 7 years ago and is no longer available. Phew! My first book with a publisher was Summer and July by Paul Mosier for Harper and it was also the first time I was hired to narrate the kind of book I would have bought in a bookstore and read for pleasure. It was a thrilling experience. I’ve been able to narrate a lot of those kind of books since and it’s a true joy.

What do you always have in the booth?

Tea, tea and more tea! Chapstick and a cleaning cloth for my glasses. Tissues for the extra sad (or extra happy) books. A portrait of me done by my daughter when she was 5 and my Audie nomination medal for Queer Ducks!

How did you come to performing audiobooks?

I studied theater in New York and then Paris where I moved after college. I performed onstage in France (in French) for about 10 years in children’s theater, musical theater and medieval farce. I shifted to voicework because the hours were more compatible with being a mom and then I found my true home in audiobooks. I have always been a voracious reader and getting paid to do that feels like cheating (even though it’s of course also hard work). As an actor, I love getting to play all the parts!
