Water, Throat Coat tea, Ricola cough drops, a vocal spray… and a commitment to the work!

How did you come to performing audiobooks?

With a librarian mother and a father who read to the blind, I grew up with a love of books and spoken word recordings — from comedy to Broadway cast recordings. In 1998, after building a career in theatre and comedy improv, I began volunteering at the InTouch Network and spent 11 years reading The New Yorker magazine to millions of visually impaired listeners every week. Around 2002 the APA held an event to recruit classically trained actors into the industry; a colleague offered me her invitation… and I was on my way.

Anything else you’d like a listener to know?

I love this work. As narrators I believe we have the responsibility to be guardians of language. And whatever book I have in front of me, as long as I'm at the mic it's the *best book ever written*. (Luckily, I tend to get extremely well-written books!)
