My dog, Minnie, who technically is a bit too big to fit in there!
I was a singer songwriter and teacher for most of my young professional life, but a bit of career burnout led me to take an introduction to voiceover class on a lark. Each week we would cover a different aspect of VO. When we got to the section about audiobooks, I knew I was hooked. I started up an ACX profile and immediately started narrating in my spare time, and when covid forced the shutdown of my educational program where I was teaching, I decided to get much more serious about my narration.
I started this career in my late 40’s and yes, it’s hard to pivot from a relatively stable career to one that seems fraught with uncertainty, but as my husband has observed, since starting this audiobook journey, I have not once complained about the lack of creative outlets in my life. And this was a frequent issue I had before. As a creative person I feel ultimately fulfilled every day of my life when I’m working on a book. I’m immersed in the story, the characters, the setting, the process, and nothing gives me greater pleasure than delivering my best work on a project. We only have one life (probably), and I’m happy to spend mine doing something so interesting and fulfilling.
