What do you always have in the booth?

I have two action figures, Data from Star Trek and Goofy, to ward off the making of “goofy data.” I have a picture of a Johnny Heller action figure saying, “SLOW THE F**K DOWN!” and I have a picture of a 1950s poster I had in my room when I was 4 of Elsie the Cow and her family, very calming.

How did you come to performing audiobooks?

By way of a Bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Art (UC Davis 1974), career in natural resource interpretation (after being a wildland firefighter a few summers), as a park ranger and later a public affairs officer for 3 federal land agencies…when I moved to Las Vegas to be with my new wife, she handed me the UNLV Continuing Education catalog and said, “Here. Find something to do!” That led to voiceover classes and in a few years, auditioning at ACX for months until I landed my first book…and it hasn’t stopped since.

Anything else you’d like a listener to know?

I’ve also produced and narrated books from the public domain, like the Lone Wolf series, at SpokenRealms. I have narrated books about history, politics, biography and philosophy. I love creating character voices for my fiction projects so listeners will know who is talking and to capture each character’s life in a few words.
