Hi, I’m Bronwen Price, a Brit audiobook narrator based in London, and I have come with my recommendation today. So I would like to recommend to all of you the audiobook of The Voyage Home by Pat Barker, third in her Women of Troy trilogy, narrated by the stellar Kristin Atherton. The reason I want to recommend this one is twofold, really. One, the book itself. Barker writes like no one else when it comes to topics of war and modernising it, and understanding the psychology behind war and historical events, and what she does for the women particularly in this trilogy is extraordinary. Clytemnestra, Ritsa, Cassandra become wholly human. And the reason why this is the queen among audiobooks, though, is Kristin Atherton’s narration. She brings such humanity, such subtle, delicate, wholly authentic characterisation to all of them. So your three big hitters, Clytemnestra, Ritsa and Cassandra, all wholly believable, but also the whiny teenager Electra, the horrific, deeply unlikeable Agamemnon who kills his daughter to appease the gods. Even he becomes human, unlikeable though he is. It’s just extraordinary. I would 100% recommend it. Happy listening.
